How
can I help you?
Does this sound familiar? You want
to use
technology for a lesson in your classroom, but you just don't know
where to begin. To add to this problem, you just don't have time
to figure out what to use or how it works. Plus, you don't want
to make a fool of yourself in front of the kids. After all -- you
are the teacher!
I'd be glad to meet with you so
we can collaborate on some ideas. I know you don't have any time,
and that's okay. We can talk while you are watching your students
at recess, during your lunch, while you monitor your students in
bathroom lines, before or after school, or just any time you have a
couple of seconds. Just touch base with me, and we can set up a
quick meeting time.
Next, I can help you prepare for
the lesson in ways you want help! If you would like, I
can gather lesson plans, equipment and materials. I can get every
thing all set up, and even model the lesson for you.
Sometimes teachers just want
a
little support when they make first attempts at using something new in
the classroom. They just want some one in the background who
knows what to do if something goes wrong. If this sounds like
you, I can be that background person for you!
Finally, there are those teachers
who are looking for a challenge. You want to grow into higher
levels as a technology user. There again, it would be my pleasure
to support you in ways you want support!
Whether you are an experienced
technology user, or new to all these gadgets, I would be glad to
support you in ways that work for you! Just as each student is
different, so is each adult. So together we can help you in ways
that are meaningful to you and your growth!

Did you know. . . . .
Amherst County has a Digital
Blue Microscope. This is a microscope that attaches to
your computer. Once your computer is connected to a LCD or Smart
Board, you can project images so that students can better see.
Let me know if you want to plan a lesson using this wonderful tool!

Wonderful Web Sites
States Games
Grades
3-5: A number of on-line games to reinforce states, state
capitals, and regions. A great site which could be used as
a center, for small group work, or as a large group activity.
Rebus Rhymes
Grades
K-2: Favorite children's songs, poems, and nursery rhymes in
rebus form. Would be great with small or large groups.
COOL
SCHOOL ALPHABET FONTS
TEACHERS & STAFF: Four pages of wonderful school fonts
that would be great for newsletters and desktop publishing. If
you need help downloading these, just yell!
SPONGE*
ACTIVITIES
*Coined by Madeline Hunter
UPPER PRIMARY/INTERMEDIATE: Sponges keep the kids
learning during times of "administrivia." They increase
vocabulary and build on concepts, leaving no wasted learning time
during the day.
TEACHERS AND FAMILIES
STAFF, PARENTS, AND CHILDREN: this site has a little
bit of something for everyone! Some of my personal favorites are
the on line grammar activities found in the K-12 section.
THE
LETTER GENERATOR
2ND GRADE AND UP: Are you looking for an
exciting way to teach friendly or business letters? Then you will
love this site! This can be used in a large group or individual
instruction. The site also lets you select a border to make
letters more artistically attractive! Thanks to Melba Leach,
Microcomputer Specialist at Arlington, for sharing this site!
PICTURE MATCH &
GINGERBREAD PHONICS
K-2: This is another great lesson from
the Read, Write and Think people. Includes a wonderful writing
lesson, information on brain research, and an online phonics
activity.
Helping
students deal with tragedy
Events in the news today are frightening to
adults and in order to protect our children we try to shield them from
knowing what is going on. But no matter how hard we try, we will
never be able to fully keep them from hearing about things that may
scare
them. Unfortunately, children may not be able to verbalize
their fears and this fear may cause them to act out in school.
Below are some sights which will help teach children how to handle the
news to which they are exposed. For other questions or help,
please contact your school's guidance counselor or health
assistant.

Ideas: Call me!
What comes to your mind when you think of using internet sites for
learning activities? Many times we think we need to be in the lab
to use internet sites for instruction. There are a wide variety
of ways to incorporate this dynamic tool! How you teach
with a computer is influenced by your teaching style, the age of the
students, the subject matter, and available equipment!
I'd be delighted to spend a few minutes with you to share ways to teach
with the internet in your classroom. Just touch base with me, and
we can set up a time to get together. I'd be glad to get you
started by providing the initial instruction, or assisting you the
first few times you use technology for classroom instruction.
Planning is Crucial!
This summer I
attended the VDOE's ITRT Summer Camp. One of their big pushes is
that ITRTs need to spend 70% of our
time creating resources that meet the needs of teachers in our
division. In order to better serve you and meet your technology
needs I have to know what your needs are. This year I have come
up with a plan to meet on a more regular basis so that I can better
assist you. During the week of September 4th I will meet with
each grade during your planning time for about 10-15 minutes.
After that, once a month I will touch base with the grade level chair
to get requests from the grade. For individual needs you are
still welcome to email me with any questions, concerns, or
requests. I am looking forward to an AWESOME year!
