How May I Help You?

I can't believe that Christmas break is here.  It seems that school just started, you know? The county ITRTs have just returned from a fantastic conference.  We have tons of new ideas for technology integration.  For example:

Microsoft Reader
:  A free ebook reader
Text to Speech:  Will allow Microsoft Reader to read ebooks aloud.
Read in Reader: an add in for Microsoft Word.  Anything you type in Word can be converted to a Microsoft Reader document which will then be read aloud by Microsoft Reader.  Imagine!  Students can type their stories and then hear the story read back to them.  Awesome!

Email me for more information on how to use the above in your classroom.

Merry Christmas!

Tech Tip

Is it frustrating to find that you can't send email because your mailbox is full?  One of the first solutions to try is to find which of your emails is the largest and remove it first. To organize your emails by their size, click on the word "size"

Don't forget after you delete an email, you will still need to go to the delete folder and delete it again.
If your mailbox is full because of all the wonderful links your ITRT sends you, see the following Highlight.

 Lesson Ideas

This month's highlight:

PortaPortal

Portaportal is a web based bookmarking utility that lets you store links to your favorite websites online. Now your bookmarks are no longer limited to any one machine.  Then, the next time you come across a website that you like, simply copy the URL, login and add it to your portal. This way no matter where you are when you surf the web, the bookmark will be waiting for you!  You may choose to set a guest access.  That way your colleagues and/or students may have access to the same sites you visit often.  Talk to your ITRT if you want more ideas for using Portaportal.

TEACHERS & STAFF:  I have tried to capture the best sites to tie into this nine week's  Viginia Standards of Learning.  If you need something more on a particular topic, please email me. Please take a few moments to browse not only these but the links you will find on the portaportal pages of colleagues.  You can get to their portals by clicking here.  If you wish to have links for a special lesson, let me know.  I will be happy to assist you!  All of these links will be added to the Amherst County SOL Links Page.

Free music can be downloaded from www.freeplaymusic.com .  These are some great pieces for background music for digital storytelling, power point productions and music appreciation.

This site about using technology with multiple intellegence to differentiate instruction tells about the "Musical/Rhythmic" student that loves " to have music playing as they study and often hum or sing to themselves.

www.libraryspot.com is an extensive collection of online libraries & references.  Yes, there is some advertising but not those that pop out at you all the time.

Those who need information and various maps of all the states might use Netstate.com.

Got Maps?  Find them at National Atlas.

Way more Excel Ideas. This site will lead you into more technology integration ideas

Dont't forget to check the Amherst County Links Page for more links!

Note: I belong to several web rings which gives me a chance to exchange information with teachers from all over the world.  These links are some examples.  If you have a link that you think is truly wonderful, please share.  I will check out your link and forward it to other teachers.  We are not in this alone!  Also, please check out my portaportal for even more links.  See my home page for a hotlink to my portaportal.
