As a classroom teacher I was asked to be a part of the Madison Heights Elementary Data Focus Team and was even priviledged to go to the ASCD conference in Dallas Texas to learn the best ways to gather and analyze data. When I started this year as an ITRT I wanted to docuemt for teachers the benefits of teaching with technology.  After two lessons, Paint the Town and the Digital Storytelling Project, I had teachers telling me that project based learning took too much time.  So I decided that I would show them some data documentation.  The Paint the Town lesson was done first semester.  Students completed a web quest (I did not design the web quest) on the Regions of Virginia.  After the webquest was finished, students had to use a paint program to draw a map showing the Regions.  The map was uploaded to the Project Poster site which is part of 4teachers.org.  The students then ended the project by writing a paragraph about Virginia.  After the first nine weeks I created this graph and shared it with teachers.  Click on the graph to enlarge the image for easier viewing.

I was also delighted to be able to take over 300 students through a digital storytelling project this year.  At Temperance Elementary and Pleasant View all students went through the process.  At the other two schools, teachers were not convinced that the time would be worth the effort.  I had 12 students at AES use the DST project with remediation students and Central Elementary had 6 gifted ed students participate in the project.  Below is the graph showing the percentage of  fifth grade students passing the Virginia Writing Standards of Learning Test. This graph was again shared with the fifth grade teachers with which I worked. Clicking on the image will enlarge it so that you can more easily read the graph.
